Drains and Diseases
What were living conditions like for the poor in Victorian Manchester? Why did so many poor people die? How was public health improved in the nineteenth century?
We explore these questions during Drains and Diseases, a one hour activity tour of some of the Museum's historic buildings and key galleries including the reconstructed sewer in Underground Manchester. The tour can be booked for groups of up to 20 children. (Victorian Britain/Local History) Available every weekday during school term times.
The Romans in Manchester
What was the Roman Manchester like? What was life like for the soldiers in the fort? Pictures and models of Castlefield from Roman times to the present day, replica items from Roman soldier's kit and archaeological finds help us to build up a picture of life in Mamucium during this one-hour classroom-based taught session. Maximum group size 36 pupils. Click here for more information and learning resources.
Combine the taught session with a tour of the reconstructed Roman fort at Castlefield, led by an authentically dressed Roman soldier re-enactor from Roman Tours. (Additional charge of £45 per class.)
Session and tour available from 15 Sept to 24 Oct 2008 and 12 Jan to 22 May 2009.
